Yellow Dal Tadka

Easy restaurant's style dal tadka.
Dals are basically rich in protein. You will find dal in every Indian restaurant menu. Today I have tried a same recipe from the menu of restaurant for you. You can use this tadka which I have tried here in every basic dal. Here I am using arhar dal but you can use any dal of your preference and use this tadka on it.

Ingredients

1 cup arhar dal or toor dal (pigeon pea)
½ teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
1 medium sized onion
½ tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
1 medium sized tomato
Salt according to your taste
½ teaspoon red chilli powder
1 tablespoon coriander powder
⅓ teaspoon cumin powder
⅓ teaspoon turmeric powder
½ tablespoon Garam masala powder

Method

  • Wash, rinse and soak the dal for few hours.
  • Pressure cook for 5-6 whistles on medium flame with a pinch of salt and turmeric powder.
  • Take a kadai or wok add oil on a medium flame add jeera seeds when crackle add chopped onions and ginger-garlic paste.
  • And cook it till light brown colour.
  • When cooked add all dried masalas i.e. salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder.
  • Cook the spices for next 30-40 seconds. You can add 2 tablespoon of water to avoid any type of spices to burn (you can use this tip in any masala cooking).
  • Now add Chopped tomatoes and mix well.
  • Cook till spices leaves fat/oil from sides, then add boiled dal.
  • Let the dal comes to boil, in between stir the dal with spatula to avoid sticking it on base of kadai.
  • When it comes to boil cook it on low flame for next 4-5 minutes.
  • Now your dal is ready. Garnish it with coriander leaves and ginger juliennes. Serve it with steamed rice or phulka.
